Partners

The ICT sector is a complex and dynamic environment, and throughout its thirty year history ISPA has built valuable relationships with many other organisations active in the sector. We value our collaborations with these bodies, and believe that strong partnerships allow ISPA to better represent its members’ interests.

Advertising Regulatory Board

The Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) is South Africa's official self-regulation body that adjudicates complaints about the content of advertising — keeping advertising legal, decent, honest and truthful. ISPA enjoys a collaborative relationship with the ARB, monitoring ARB rulings that involve internet services, and keeping ISPA's members informed about responsible advertising practices.

Association of Comms and Technology

The Association of Comms and Technology (ACT) was formed in October 2021 by six of the country’s largest telecommunications operators (Cell C, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, MTN, Rain, Telkom and Vodacom). The organisation collaborates with stakeholders across the ICT ecosystem (including ISPA) and advocates for a thriving communications and telecommunications sector with a particular focus on the policy and regulatory environment.

Communications Risk Information Centre

COMRiC is an association formed for the collaboration of key stakeholders in the telecommunications industry to reduce crime and monitor risk within the sector in a meaningful and sustainable manner. Along with SABRIC, ISPA’s CSIRT.net.za project and the Cybersecurity Hub, COMRiC plays an important role in combatting crime and cybercrime.

Cybersecurity Hub

The National Cybersecurity Hub was established in 2015 as one of the national Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and strives to make cyberspace an environment where all residents of South Africa can safely communicate, socialise, and transact in confidence. It does so by working with stakeholders (including ISPA) from government, the private sector, civil society, and the public with a view to identifying and countering cybersecurity threats.
The Digital Council Africa (DCA) was established in 2010 as the FTTx Council Africa and has since extended its mandate to all forms of digital infrastructure. The DCA’s goal is to maximize the societal benefits of digital access and promote equality, inclusivity, and digital adoption. ISPA and the DCA share many common goals in promoting connectivity in South Africa and we have a fifteen year history of constructive collaboration.
The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is a regulatory body in South Africa responsible for classifying films, games and certain publications for public distribution. Since its inception the FPB’s mandate has been extended to include the regulation of some forms of online content. Internet service providers are required to register with the FPB. ISPA collaborates with the FPB on our shared vision of protecting children and vulnerable citizens from online harm.

The Internet Society is a global charitable organisation empowering people to keep the internet a force for good: open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. The Internet Society South Africa Chapter (ISSAC) is one of the few internet organisations representing civil society in South Africa. ISPA has a long history of working with both the Internet Society globally and the local chapter.

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) is a not-for-profit company established by the South African banking industry to combat organised crime. SABRIC plays a key role in supporting the industry and law enforcement through effective crime risk information sharing, mitigation strategies, and fraud prevention initiatives. ISPA and SABRIC collaborate on cybersecurity initiatives.

The Wireless Access Providers’ Association (WAPA) was established in 2006 and is a non-profit trade association acting as a collective voice for the wireless internet service provider (WISP) industry. WAPA’s primary objective is to promote the industry’s growth by facilitating self-regulation, promoting best practices, and educating members and the market. ISPA and WAPA have common views on many aspects of regulation and licensing and have a track record of nearly twenty years of cooperation.

The Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association (WASPA) is a voluntary association representing mobile value-added service providers. WASPA is a self-regulatory body for the mobile content and messaging industry, with membership mandated by mobile network operators for their business partners. WASPA collaborates with ISPA on social development initiatives in the ICT sector.
The .ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA) is the statutory regulator and manager of the .ZA Domain namespace. ZA is the internet country code top-level domain for South Africa. ISPA was involved in the development of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (2002) which created ZADNA and has fostered a warm relationship with the regulator since its establishment. The .ZA namespace is of significant importance to ISPs and citizens of South Africa.
